Proudly Show You’re Helping Save Planet Home

Let your friends and neighbors know that you’ve taken action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions that cause climate change (and, often, to save yourself money), and they might be inspired to do likewise!

While we’re all inundated with messages from TV, direct mail and social media, multiple studies show that people are most influenced by seeing what people they know are doing, and are inspired to take action as a result of conversations with friends and neighbors. This was recently confirmed by a survey of Freeport residents who took advantage of the town’s rebate program for heat pumps and other energy-saving devices. While a significant number learned of the program from the town website and direct mail, many more people learned of the program from friends and neighbors.

FreeportCAN is launching the “Saving Planet Home” Program, to show our community how many people are taking action to fight climate change, and they can too! This will take all of us to turn around this crisis, and together, we will!

You may proudly display this sign by taking any climate-friendly action, such as:

  • Drive an EV or Hybrid
  • Bike at least 10 miles per week in place of driving
  • Install heat pumps, electric water heaters
  • Install solar panels or join a solar farm
  • Weatherize your home
  • Use an electric lawnmower/leaf blower/trimmer, weed whacker, snow blower, etc.
  • Take one less long-haul (>3 hours) airplane flight per year
  • Eat at least one plant-based meal per week
  • Purchase >$100 of used clothing

The program is operating on an honor system. But we’d like to know what actions are being taken! Please let us know what you’re doing to help save our planet by taking this brief survey. Your answers will help inform our priorities and initiatives.

Pick up your sign at various convenient locations in town:

FreeportCAN’s Farmers Market – Memorial Park/Bow Street. Fridays from 10 to 1.

Freeport Town Hall – 30 Main Street

Freeport Community Library – 10 Library Drive

Freeport Community Services – 53 Depot Street

Or email us with your address at [email protected] and we’ll deliver one directly to you!

Many thanks for doing what you’ve done to help save our planet, and for helping to get the word out to your friends and neighbors.
