SUMMARY:The "Pinkies" Opening Event
DESCRIPTION:The pink sculptures have found a new home in Freeport\nOpening event: Friday\, Oct. 11\, 4-6pm\nFreeport Town Hall lawn \nThese sculptures\, made from reclaimed fishing gear\, honor the stewardship of Maine’s coastal fisheries\, and represent the growing impact of climate change on our marine environment. \nThey promise to attract attention while inspiring environmental conversations with all ages. \nThe Pinkies—a trio of monumental steel sculptures sheathed in reclaimed fishing gear from beaches and coastal waters—were created by artist Pamela Moulton aka “Posey” with the help of fishermen\, nonprofits\, and over 5000 volunteers. These tall\, huggable sculptures will be on display from October 2024 through October 2025 on the lawn in front of Freeport’s Town Hall at 30 Main Street. \nA series of educational events inspired by The Pinkies are planned over the next year\, engaging local students and the community to celebrate art created from reclaimed materials\, and offer meaningful opportunities for community dialogue about the growing impact of climate change on our marine ecosystems and coastal livelihoods. \nA fun\, interactive\, family-friendly welcome event is planned for next Friday\, October 11\, 2024\, from 4-6 pm. DESCRIPTION:Join host passivhausMaine\, Freeport Climate Action Now and other community members and organizations in a WindowDresser community build event this November to create energy-saving window inserts for our neighbors. This build is an opportunity for us to take tangible steps to reduce energy usage and make our homes greener. \nEvent Details:\nDates: November 11 – 18\, 2024\nLocation: Wishcamper Barn\, 35 Little River Lane\, Freeport\, ME\nContact: Dori Lam\, dori@passivhausmaine.org\nGet your home insulated. 🏠\nThe process is simple. After you sign up\, a team of volunteers will visit your home to measure your windows and provide a quote. Once measured\, you’ll be invited to participate in the community build\, where your inserts will be custom-made. Volunteering is encouraged but not required\, and all skills are taught on-site.
